AI Visibility for Dental Practices in Zurich 2026

When someone in Zürich asks ChatGPT or Gemini "who's a good dentist?", only a handful of practices ever get named — and which ones is far less random than it looks. We ran the test on three AI assistants. Here's what decides who appears.

Key Findings

The dimensions predict AI mentions

A practice's score on the eight visibility dimensions closely tracks how often the assistants actually recommend it. Visibility is earnable.

The practices AI recommends do specific things well

The top performers combine strong reviews with deep, answer-ready websites, broad treatment-page coverage, clear availability and consistent directory listings.

There are clear, open opportunities

The market is weakest on owned-content authority, AI-answer readiness and pricing transparency, and high-intent categories like implants, Invisalign, anxious patients and families are barely contested.

Methodology

On we asked 3 AI assistants (ChatGPT, Google Gemini and Perplexity) the kind of questions a real patient would type when looking for a dentist in Zurich.

Note

Scores reflect only how visible a practice was to these AI tools on the test date, they are not a measure of clinical quality or competence, and they are neither an endorsement nor a criticism of any practice.

Why AI visibility matters for Zürich dentists

Zürich is Switzerland's largest city and one of its most competitive dental markets — hundreds of practices, a highly international population, and patients quick to adopt new tools. Increasingly, those patients don't begin on Google. They ask an AI assistant: "Who's a good dentist in Zürich?" ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google Gemini answer in a short, confident paragraph that names just a handful of practices.

If a practice isn't in that answer, it is invisible to that patient — no matter how good its care, its reviews or its location. This study measures, for the Zürich market, which practices the assistants name today and, more usefully, why.

How patients in Zürich now find a dentist

The shift is subtle but important. A Google search returns a page of links and a map; the patient scans, compares and chooses. An AI assistant returns an answer — often two or three names, each with a sentence of justification. There is no second page, no scrolling, no map of ten options.

For Zürich's large expat and English-speaking community the effect is even stronger: many ask in English, and the assistant readily recommends "English-speaking dentists in Zürich" by name.

Being one of the named few is the whole game. That makes AI visibility a distinct discipline from traditional SEO — related, but not the same.

How AI visibility is built: the eight dimensions

We define eight dimensions that drive how visible a dental practice is to AI assistants. Each carries a weight; together they sum to 100.

The two heaviest are:

  • Review reputation, the gatekeeper for whether a practice is considered at all
  • Owned-content authority, which determine whether an assistant can find, trust and quote a practice's own website

The remaining dimensions — AI-answer readiness, treatment-page depth, multilingual and English content, emergency and availability signals, Swiss directory presence, and pricing transparency — shape how often a practice surfaces for specific, high-intent questions.

The eight visibility dimensions (weights sum to 100)
DimensionWeightWhat it measures
Review Reputation20Google rating, review volume and recency, owner replies, plus reviews beyond Google.
Owned-Content Authority16Depth, originality and authority of the practice's own website, including named clinicians and credentials (E-E-A-T).
Treatment-Page Depth14A dedicated, crawlable page for each treatment — implants, Invisalign, veneers, children, anxiety, emergencies, and more.
AI-Answer Readiness14Clear answer blocks, FAQs, a glossary and structured/schema data that let an assistant extract and quote the content.
Multilingual / English10Key pages available in English (and ideally other languages) with clear expat-friendly positioning.
Emergency & Availability10365-day, weekend, same-day, long-hours and no-surcharge messaging.
Directory & Citations10Consistent listings across Swiss directories — OneDoc, local.ch, Comparis, search.ch.
Pricing Transparency6Published prices, price ranges, tax-point values or fixed-fee packages.

Finding 1 — the dimensions predict AI mentions

When we place each practice's dimension-based Visibility Score next to the AI Recommendation Score it actually earned across fifteen prompts and three AI assistants, the two track closely.

The practices that do the dimension work well are (with few exceptions) the practices the AI assistants name. This is the reassuring finding for any Zürich practice:

AI visibility is not random, and it is not reserved for the biggest brands.

It is the predictable output of a defined set of signals — which means it can be diagnosed, prioritized and improved deliberately.

Finding 2 — what the top practices do well

The two practices the assistants recommended most consistently across Zürich are not a mystery.

  • swiss smile (86.6/100) brings the broadest profile in the sample: the largest review base, the deepest treatment-page coverage — a dedicated page for nearly every treatment — a dense Swiss-directory footprint and 365-day availability.
  • ZurichDental (85.6/100) brings deep, answer-ready owned content that the assistants quote almost verbatim: a transparent price concept, an active blog and FAQ-style pages, alongside a four-language site and explicit no-surcharge availability.

Between them they illustrate the winning pattern in Zürich:

  1. Strong reviews
  2. Website built to be read and quoted by an AI
  3. Broad treatment coverage and unambiguous availability

The next strongest performers — anonymized here — scored roughly between 62 and 81 out of 100, usually pairing a high-quality review base with a reasonably deep website and consistent directory listings. Their most common single weakness was pricing transparency.

Finding 3 — where the Zürich market is weakest

Averaging all 10 practices on each dimension shows where the Zürich market as a whole is under-built — and therefore where the bar to stand out is lowest.

The three under-built dimensions are:

  • AI-Answer Readiness (5.7/10)
  • Owned-Content Authority (5.6/10)
  • Pricing Transparency (5.6/10)

These sit well below the market's stronger suits of English content (7.3) and directory presence (7.0). Because the first two carry heavy weight, improving them moves a practice's score quickly.

On top of that, several high-intent categories in Zürich are wide open:

  • Implants, Invisalign, cosmetic veneers and pricing — mostly answered with niche specialists rather than the prominent brands.
  • Nervous patients and families with children — answered thinly and inconsistently.

For a practice willing to publish clear, structured content on these topics, these are uncontested openings.

What this means for a Zürich practice

The practical takeaway is that AI visibility in Zürich is winnable, and most of the market has not yet started competing for it. A practice that does the following can realistically become one of the names an AI assistant gives — including in categories no established Zürich brand currently owns:

  1. Maintains strong, recent reviews.
  2. Publishes deep, answer-ready content on its own domain — named clinicians, in-depth treatment explainers, FAQs and a glossary.
  3. Gives every treatment its own crawlable page.
  4. States pricing and availability plainly.
  5. Keeps its Swiss directory listings consistent.

In closing

AI assistants are becoming a real front door to Zürich's dental market, and that door currently opens for a small, identifiable set of practices. The encouraging part is that the criteria are knowable and largely within a practice's control.

Whether you are an established Zürich clinic or a smaller specialist, the path to being recommended runs through the same eight signals — and the market is early enough that deliberate effort still stands out.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is AI visibility for a dental practice?

It's how likely an AI assistant (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini) is to name your practice when a patient asks it to recommend a dentist. As people increasingly ask AI instead of scrolling Google, being the answer the assistant gives is becoming as important as ranking on a search page.

How was this measured?

Fifteen patient-style questions were run live on three assistants via a real browser on 10 June 2026. We recorded which Zürich practices each assistant named and in what order, then scored by position. Separately, each practice was scored on eight weighted signals (reviews, website depth, treatment coverage, answer-readiness, language, availability, directories, pricing).

Is this a ranking of the best dentists in Zürich?

No. It measures only digital visibility to AI tools on one date — not clinical quality, safety, value or patient outcomes. It is directional, not a definitive ranking, and not an endorsement or criticism of any practice.

Will the results be the same if I try it myself?

Possibly not. These assistants are non-deterministic and personalised — answers vary by day, user, location, device and model version. That's why the analysis emphasises the underlying signals (the dimension score) over any single day's output.

How can a practice improve its AI visibility?

Strengthen the signals AI relies on: maintain strong, recent reviews; publish deep, answer-ready content on your own domain; give every treatment its own crawlable page; add FAQs, a glossary and structured data; state availability and pricing clearly; and keep directory listings consistent.

About this study

The Dental AI Visibility Index measures one thing only: how visible local dental practices were to consumer AI assistants on a specific date. It is a directional snapshot of digital visibility — not a definitive ranking.

It is not an assessment of clinical quality, safety, value, hygiene, patient outcomes, or the competence of any practice or clinician. Being named — or not named — by an AI assistant says nothing about the standard of care a practice provides. Nothing here is an endorsement, recommendation, or criticism of any named practice.

AI assistants are non-deterministic and personalised: their answers vary by day, user, location, device, and model version. If you run the same prompts yourself, you may get different results — which is why the analysis weights the underlying signals (the dimension score) more heavily than any single day's output.

How to read the results

The findings reflect prompts run live in a real web browser. They capture a moment in time and will change as practices update their websites, as reviews accumulate, and as the assistants themselves evolve. Treat scores and positions as indicative, not absolute.
